NAVAL BOARD MEMBER AT H.M.N.Z.S. PEGASUS

An inspection of H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus was made last evening by Captain U. J. H. Van Der Byl, second naval member of the New Zealand Naval Board. Captain Van Der Byl spent an hour and a half inspecting classes under instruction and addressed the parade of 150 ratings. The need for sea .power and sea transport could never be replaced, he said. There would always be a need for sea transport and convoys in war time, and their work could not be done by aircraft. Volunteer divisions were essential to make up the body of men when there was no large permanent navy. Tomorrow Captain Van Der Byl will leave for Dunedin where he will inspect H.M.N.Z.S. Toroa.
