When Sam Lilley (Bill Owen), a jockey who has been “warned off” is shown the way into Lingfield Racecourse by Young Georgie Crain (Fella Edmonds) he is impressed by the boy’s knowledge of racing and enthusiasm to become a jockey and agrees to teach him, after defeating opposition from Georgie's Widowed Mother, Barbara (Kay Walsh). Georgie soon gets his chance on the course and makes swift headway as a jockey, but Sam finds himself heavily in debt as a result of betting on one of the boy’s mounts. Barbara, too, involves herself in money trouble when she tries to assist Sam. Only by persuading Georgie to deliberately lose his next race does Sam get the boy’s mother out of serious trouble. To tell any more of the story would spoil its thrilling climax,. but we can tell you that this is one of the most satisfying entertainments you could wish. to see.
