"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, November 7. ;? e Festival Regatta Committee and the Canterbury R Class Squadron reach agreement on the latter’s offer to bring boats to race in the regatta on January 29, it is possible that the Dominion’s leading racing skipper and world-class yachtsman. Peter Mander. of Christchurch, will be seen m action on the Otago harhour.
• Advice received from the squadron indicates that Mander is one of seven prominent Canterbury skippers willing to race their boats if an R class race is staged. He would be bringing his new boat, Salaam.
• Other R class skippers who have expressed the desire to combine a holiday watching the Sanders Cup with a spot of sailing are W. Nicholson (Ges- ®- Wall (Impulse), A. Burgess (Tactic), W. Lindsay (Logic), C. Papps (new unnamed boat), and F. Simpson (Shadow). This list includes many of Canterbury’s leading skippers who are not far below Mander in sailing ability. The R class, which provides keen competition in Canterbury, has made rapid progress since the formation of the squadron almost three years ago. Boats of the class haye been built in Wellington. Timaru, Whangarei, and Auckland, and now it is invading Otago.
