VICEREGAL The Governor-General <Sir Wil-' loughby Norrie) and Lady Norrie arrived by air from Wellington early last evening on a week’s visit to Christchurch. They were accompanied by Captain A. N. Campbell-Harris, A.D.C., and Miss Jean Holloway, lady-in-waiting, and travelled in a Royal New Zealand Air Force Dakota. At Wigram they were met by Group Captain F. R. Dix, officer commanding the station.
Todav their Excellencies will attend the Canterbury Jockey Club’s New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton. They will attend the Remembrance Day service in the Christchurch Cathedral tomorrow morning, when his Excellency will read one of the lessons In the afternoon his Excellency will officially open the Mary Potter Hospice at Calvary Hospital. On Monday morning their Excellencies will visit Lincoln, where his Excellency will officially open the new refectory at Canterbury Agricultural College.
The following were elected to the Baptist College Board at yesterday’s session of the Baptist Assembly, in Auckland: —the Revs. R. G. Brown F. H. Carter, J. T. Crozier, A. H. Finlay, R. C. Hart, F. H. Lloyd, B. T. J. Pritchard, J. E. Simpson, R. J. Thompson, and N. R. Wood, Messrs T. C. Batts, N. S. Gaze, F. W. Horner, G. H. Ivory, R, C. M. Jenkins, H. G. Massam, and N. A. Reynolds.
Mr F. A. Mclntosh was re-elected chairman at the annual meeting of the Rangiora County Council yesterday. Mr C. L. Morriss was elected deputychairman.
Mr W. F. McArthur, chairman of the Paparua County Council, has been appointed a deputy member of the National Roads Board, according to an announcement in the Gazette.
