The workers have prospered accordingly. By setting up the Board of Trade the Government ensured that a more liberal import policy could be introduced without injury to New Zealand industries. Consider the facts; • 1,414 new factories have been started since 1949. • The number of factory workers is increasing all the time. Latest figures show a total of 194,000, an increase of 18,000 on 1949. • Weekly wage pay-out has increased from £1,077,996 to £2,079607, a 97 per cent rise. • Value of output has increased by £167 millions. Production has soared. More textiles, clothing, foodstuffs, building materials, household appliances, etc., are being produced by our factories, and are finding a ready market in a prosperous community. There is greater security, more contentment, and less industrial unrest among the workers than under class-conscious Labour. Things have never been better—let* s keep them so!
