RELIGION IN SCHOOLS

Sir, —Mr Algie, Minister of Education, says: “I am keen for the public to discuss what can be done” (about religion in schools), and the Prime Minister has given a lead by his statement that the life of this country rests on the Christian faith. Is it not time to realise that Christian education in New Zealand could be the greatest step toward solidarity of front in face of all undermining influence? Might this not be tile answer to questions of salvation and protection from atomic or other forms of warfare? Learning to understand Christ’s power to aid and to win over ail forms of selfishness, greed or aggression, individual or collective, might prove a faith greater in effect than any bomb.—Yours, etc., PSALM FIFTY. November 1, 1954.
