N.Z. REGATTA ALLOCATED TO SOUTHLAND (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 30. The 1956 championship regatta of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association has been allocated to Southland and will be-held on the Oreti river, five miles from Invercargill, on either February 11 or February 18. This was decided at the annual meeting of the association today. The Auckland Association applied for and was granted permission to hold the 1955 eight-oar championship on the Tameki river. The race will be held on April 9. Officers elected were—President, Mr D. S. Jones; vice-presidents, Messrs W» A. Stevenson an*- W. H. Candy; council, Messrs A. D. Bayfelld. F. J. Cullen, T. M. Hinkley, L. L. Hosking. G. F. Jeune, F. G. Obom, A. Ross, H. W. Whyte; secretary, Mr S. X. Kidd.

SELECTION OF OLYMPIC GAMES CREWS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. Three remits about selection of New Zealand representative crews to compete at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 were discussed In Wellington on Saturday at the annual meettag of the New Zealand Amateur Rowtag Association. The remits, from the Otago association tian werd that the meeting define the procedure for the selection of crews for the Games; that, in the event of New Zealand crews being selected, the selectors call for nominations of suitable oarsmen from provincial selectors; and that the meeting appoint national selectors. The Otago remits were withdrawn In favour of one that the meeting appoint the national selectors and tfiat ft be a recommendation to them (a) that they define the procedure for the selection of the New Zealand. crews; and (b) that provincial selectors-be appointed by local associations, and that the New Zealand selectors use their services to the maximum extent. The substitute remit was carried. The selectors appointed were Messrs A. Ross (Auckland). C. Saunders (Marlborough), and C. A. Healey (Wanganui).
