COMMERCIAL SYDNEY WOOL SALES
EFFECT OF DOCK STRIKE DISCUSSED
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, October 25. The Influence of Britain’s dock strike may affect purchases of wool by United Kingdom mills at this week’s Sydney wool sales. The strike already has caused the postponement of the October-Novem-ber sales, and if the strike is not settled by today they will be cancelled. Some trade sources said today the upset could have a temporary effect in curtailing exports from Australia. United Kingdom operators have been buying sparingly in the last few weeks, but showed more interest last week. Whether they will continue this week is a matter of conjecture. The New South Wales clip, so far this season, is not up to standard, but the best spinners’ wools now starting to come forward are in a different category and will be eagerly sought. Some high prices are certain for these speciality lines. Today’s sales will open the fifth Sydney series, with 10 brokers offering a total of 65,000 bales over four days.
