MR HOLLAND IN NELSON

AUDIENCE OF NEARLY 700 (From Our Own Reporter) mt. . NELSON, October 25. The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) a . lriendl y but lively meeting when he spoke to nearly 700 people in the Majestic Theatre tonight. The yocal section kept up a fire of interjections in the early stages, but these later died away. The meeting received with applause his assurance that the extension of the Nelson railway remained on the Government’s long-term programme of works, and that help would be given towards building up traffic on the present line by putting Government freight on it wherever practicable. Mr Holland said he would also explore the proposal to make the Government steamer Matai available for reinstatement of the Nelson-Welling-ton sea passenger service.

MR HOLLAND VISITS KAIKOURA The Prime Minister, Mr Holland, arrived in Kaikoura on Sunday evening. Yesterday morning he was accorded a civic reception in the west end of the township. The chairman. Cr. H. J. Hewson, extended a welcome to Mr Holland, and Mr T. P. Shand, member of Parliament for Marlborough, introduced Mr Holland, who expressed thanks for the welcome, and gave a brief address to the large crowd of citizens present. Mr Holland left later for Blenheim and Nelson.
