M.C.C. GAME AT PERTH

May Scores 129 (Rec. 9 p.m.) PERTH, October 24 May and Wilson placed the M'.C.v in an almost impregnable position after the first three wickets had fallen for 42. against the Combined Eleven at Perth. Yesterday May took his score to 129 and Wilson made 72. The success of May in captaincy anc batting was most satisfactory. F<m shr 20min he played the varied attack seldom making a faulty stroke, and certainly not offering any chance. B slow, it was the type of innings that would be invaluable in six-day tests. Showing prolonged concentration. May was very sure in defence, and: when he decided to hit he charmed the ' crowd with a glorious upright style, 9 wide range of powerful drives, and certainty in hooking and. pulling. Wilson, a late choice when Compton became uncertain, could develop into a , valuable member of the test side.bs measure of his solid left-hand batting, so useful against leg spinners. Wilson appeared to possess the right temperament for a big occasion. In addition Wilson has proved himself a brilliant close fielder. On current form Bailey again promises to be a key man in big matches. He followed his excellent bowling with a sound batting display, always getting his body well over the straight ball and taking a toll of anything loose. The Combined attack did not ap* ■ proach the M.C.C.’s hostility. Johnson was the most successful bowler. H« always commanded the most respect keeping the attack on the stumps. The Australians fielded splendidly; Sawle. Pavy and Rutherford making brilliant slips catches. Scores weres:— COMBINED SIDE First innings .. .. .. .. H ENGLAND First Innings W. J.
