LAWN TENNIS DAVIS CUP
U.S. WINS AMERICAN ZONE MEXICO BEATEN, 4-1 (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.in.) MEXICO CITY, Oct. 4. The United States today won the American zone of the Davis Cup, beating Mexico by 4 matches to 1. Victor Seixas (United States) beat Mario Llamas (Mexico), in today’s first singles match, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, and in the other singles match, Tony Trabert (United
States) beat Gustavo Palafox (Mexico), 14-12, 6-1, 6-2. The matches were played in drizzling rain. The United States next plays Sweden, the European Zone winner, at Brisbane on December 17-19, to decide -a challenger for Australia. Seixas, the United States champion, who surprisingly was beaten by Palafox on Saturday in the opening singles match, appeared troubled by the slippery footing today. But experience gave him the advantage over Llamas. Seixas and Trabert won the doubles match yesterday. Trabert had beaten Llamas on the opening day.
