RACING RUSSLEIGH LAME

SHOULDER AILMENT SUSPECTED Russleigh was lame before and after sprinting three furlongs in 38 4-ssec on the plough at Riccarton yesterday. She has given her trainer, F. D. Jones, some anxiety since the second day of the Dunedin spring meeting, where she was second to Magic Carpet in the Dunedin Guineas. She was sore after that race. It was at first thought that the trouble was in the off forefoot, but Jones has suspected during the last few days that the shoulder is affecting the brilliant Dogger Bank filly. Russleigh is being prepared for the Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham. It will be bad luck for her connexions if she is not fit to race against the best of her age and sex at the Wellington meeting.

W. D. SKELTON TO RIDE MAGIC CARPET

The stable jockey, W. D. Skelton, will ride Magic Carpet in the Wellington Guineas. This was announced yesterday by the colt’s owner, Mr J. H. Grigg. N. Eastwood rode Magic Carpet when he won the Dunedin Guineas. Eastwood will ride Ray Ribbon in the Trentham Skelton rode Magic Carpet in the Ashburton John Grigg Stakes, in which he was beaten by Russleigh and Slogan.
