ABATTOIRS BILL
EARLY DRAFTING PROMISED
STUDY IN PARLIAMENTARY RECESS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. A bill amending the law dealing with abattoirs will be drafted and circulated to the organisations concerned early in the Parliamentary recess, said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake) today. He had hoped and had indicated to some interested parties that he would be able to introduce the bill during the recent session of Parliament, but had stipulated that the bill would not be proceeded with at that stage, said the Minister. He had intended to introduce the bill in order to indicate the Government’s views on the 1952 report of the Abattoir Inquiry Committee, and its intentions. Mr Holyoake said pressure of work on the law drafting officers during the session had been heavy, and the Abattoirs Bill would be a long one. “Considerable work and drafting has now been done,” said the Minister, “and I c: i give a definite undertaking that the draft bill will be prepared and circulated before the end of the year. For the interested parties this will have the same effect as if it had actually been introduced during the session.”
