MINES IDLE IN GREY DISTRICT
TWO DISPUTES, ONE BREAKDOWN (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, October 5. Three State coal mines in the Grey district were idle today, two because of disputes, and a third because of a mechanical breakdown. . Employees at the Dobson mine, who walked out yesterday when they claimed transport of stone fromi a stone drive in the mine was holding up tneir production of coal, held a long stopwork meeting today, and then returned home. The union secretary, Mr J. White, said today that the management and the union were discussing the matter, which was now a dispute, and hopes were held that production would be resumed tomorrow As a result of a dispute following backshift work last night, the Liverpool State mine employees stopped work. The mine is likely to resume work tomorrow. , The Blackball mine, which was working on a big coal order to be taken by a collier at Greymouth, was stopped when a conveyer belt broke. Repairs were completed this afternoon, and production will start again tomorrow.
