“Unusual Arrears In Christchurch” EXTRA JUDGE MAY BE APPOINTED
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 1. The unusual arrears of work m the Supreme Court at Christchurch are mentioned in a reply by the Minister of Justice (Mr T. C. Webb) to a question asked in the House of Representatives by Miss M. B. Howard (Opposition, Sydenham). , „ The Minister says that an increase in the strength of the Supreme Court Bench is being considered by the Government. In Christchurch, however, there are unilsual arrears causea, principally by an unprecedented increase in the criminal sitting time. The Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough) is aware of the position, Mr Webb says, and will do whatever is possible to meet the position. It is understood that a Judge will be appointed to sit in Christchurch for three months to help Mr Justice Adams to dispose of outstanding cases, and to deal with ordinary business.
