HOUSING CAMPAIGN
PROVISION OF PLANS BY GOVERNMENT
A scheme to make house plana available to local authorities is to be instituted by the Minister of Housing (Mr W. Sullivan), according to the latest housing bulletin issued by his department. To encourage local authorities to stimulate and assist housing construction, copies of plans prepared for Government use will be available through the State Advances Corporation. Technical advice will be given by the housing division of the Ministry of Works.
Cities and boroughs will be able to choose plans of buildings to suit their needs from a booklet now in preparation. Then full sets of drawings can be obtained.
The division has prepared detailed notes to assist the homes advisory bureaux set up by some councils. These notes explain problems of finance, sections, and plans, the group building scheme, staff housing, supply of materials, and pensioners’ housing. The group building scheme has been adopted in 56 towns by about 320 builders. Special measures have also been taken to encourage county councils to make use of facilities available under the Rural Housing Act.
