LINWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB

ANNUAL BALL About 280 guests enjoyed the hospitality of the Linwood Rugby Union Football Club at the annual ball in the Mayfair Lounge last evening. Members of the women’s committee of the club comprising Mesdames D. Bastion, J. Dennis, R. Coulter, N. Egan, R. Appleyard, W. J. Cowles, and K. Jane, were responsible for the colourful decorations carried out in the club colours—green and black. Festoons of green and black draped round the walls of the ballroom were interspersed with large glittering butterflies. Benign looking life-size kiwis made of cardboard “wearing” football togs viewed the dancers from many of the vantage points. The guests of honour included Mr W. J. Cowles, the president, and Mrs Cowles, Mr O. Hattersley, representing the Canterbury Rugby Football Union, and Mrs Hattersley, Mr C. Martin, representing the Junior Advisory Board of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union, representatives of the Rugby Referees’ Association and kindred clubs. Members of the ball committee were Messrs Cowles (chairman), T. Grammer, M. Anderson, T. Mitchell, H. McDonald, M. Whitesides, J. Storey, J. Adlum, J. Kirkpatrick, and L. James (honorary secretary).
