ROAD DEATHS IN AUGUST

INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR’S FIGURE

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. September 3. Last month 32 persons died on the roads of New Zealand or in hospital after collisions, capsizes, smashing into poles and similar accidents. In August last year there were 14 road deaths. The total deaths in the first eight months this year were 223, compared with 219 January-August last year. This year began very badly, then for some months road tragedies were fewer, but the toll has begun to mount again, month-by-month record of deaths is: January 39, February 35, March 28, April 25. May 19, June 25. July August 32.
