PARLIAMENTARY DAY

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, September 2. • The House of Representatives had a further chance today of discussing papers which have been presented this Session. The Opposition chose to debate the annual report of the State Hydro-electric -Department, contending that as the department had made *a profit it could well have reduced the charge to supply authorities. The reply of the Minister in charge of the department (Mr W. S. Goosman) was that generating conditions had been good. Among 13 local bills given a third reading and passed were the Christchurch Tramway District Amendment Bill and the Christchurch Drainage District Amendment Bill. This evening the Police Force Amendment Bill was debated at length. The Opposition held that the bill disclosed discontent in the Police Force. The debate was interrupted by the adjoumament at 10.30 p.m. The House will resume at 9.30 aun. tomorrow, when further classes of estimates will be discussed.
