WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Belfast.—Mrs Gower presided at the July meeting of the Belfast branch, Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Arrangements were made to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of the branch with a luncheon and dance in the evening. Mrs Farquhar and Mrs J. Halligan demonstrated the making of bead necklaces. Competitions resulted:—special bloom: Mrs Farquhar 1, Miss M. Crawford 2. Small bloom: Miss M. Crawford 1, Mrs Farquhar 2. Large bloom: Mrs Ingold 1, Mrs Taylor 2. Miniature container: Mrs Ludwig 1, Mrs Salt 2. Eggless fruit cake: Mrs Ashby 1, Mrs Matterson 2. Patchwork article: Mrs Deavol 1, Mrs Ingold 2. Marshland.—Mrs S. Lawson gave a demonstration of smocking at the July meeting of the Marshland branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Sympathy was expressed with members who had suffered bereavements. Competitions resulted:—small bloom: Mrs D. Goode and Mrs Gottermeyer (equal) 1, Mrs L. Ching 3. Large bloom: Mrs Robertson 1, Mrs S. Watson 2. Cluster: Mrs Robertson 1, Mrs D. Goode and Mrs S. Spreydon.—There was a good attendance of members at the July meeting of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs A. Poff presided. Mesdames Beer, Munro, and Williamson gave an interesting demonstration on millinery. Competiyon winners were Mesdames Munro, Manning, Austin, Holstein, Hogsden, and Hesselyn. A letter of thanks from Mrs Wynn-Williams for clothing received* from members for Red Cross subcentre was read. The competitions resulted as follows:—jam jar of flowers: Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Steel 2. Creation in green: Mrs Adlington 1, Mrs Fincham 2. Three eggless biscuits: Mrs Fincham 1, Mrs Smith and Mrs Steel (equal) 2.

Clarkville-East Eyreton.—Miss J. Smith presided at the June meeting of the Clarkville-East Eyreton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mesdames F. Barker, H. Barnett, and R. Jackson. A report of the Canterbury North provincial executive annual meeting was given by Mrs H. Sutherland. Miss Smith reported attending the Swannanoa branch’s birthday party. ■ Competition results:—Best bloom: Mrs Frost 1, Miss J. Smith 2, Mrs R. Bennett 3. Spike bloom: Mrs G. Storer. 1, Miss G. Burgess 2, Mrs J. Holland 3. Mantel decoration: Mrs Rowlands 1, Miss Smith 2, Mrs Williams and Mrs Frost (equal) 3. Doughnuts: Miss H. Smith 1, Miss J. Smith 2, Miss Burgess 3. Beetroot, onion and potato: Mrs Clelland 1, Mrs Storer 2, Mrs Batchelor 3. Mrs H. Sutherland gave a demonstration on the making of pastry. The hostesses were Mesdames Churchward, Rowlands, and Hancock.

Styx.— The August meeting of the Styx Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held recently in the Papanul Returned Services Association hall. In the absence of Mrs Rule, Mrs Bach presided. Prior to the meeting members meet in St. James Park and planted a purple leafed maple to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth n. Competition winners were Mesdames Stirling, Spencer, and Tonkin. After the business meeting members enjoyed games and community singing. Darfield.—Mrs McKay presided at tin August meeting of the Darfield branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A report from the Canterbury executive meeting was read and discussed. An appeal for good used clothing for CORSO was made, the clothes to be left at the home of Mrs McKay. Arrangements for Miss M. Corkill of the Nurse Maude Association to speak at the September meeting had been made, it was announced, and members were asked to bring clean old linen to the meeting for the Nurse Maude Association. Final arrangements were made for the twentyfifth birthday party of the branch. After the business. Miss Dunn of the Health Department showed an interesting film on food poisoning, which was most instructive. Competition winners were as follows:—plum pudding: Mrs Clinton 1, Mrs Ash well 2, Mrs Harris 3. Leeks: Mrs Jenkins 1, Mrs R. Gibson. 2, Mrs Cooper 3. Winter roses: Mrs Bedford 1, Mrs McKay 2, Mrs J. Duncan 8. Large bloom: Mrs Bedford 1, Mrs. Blamires 2, Mrs Evison 3. Small bloom: Mrs Blamires 1, Mrs Oldridge 2, Mrs Bedford and Mrs B. Jenkins (equal) 3. Southbrook-Flaxton.—Mrs M. Shuttleworth presided over the August meeting of the Southbrook-Flaxton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Birthday sprays were presented to several members. The monthly competition was won by Mrs Jarden. Arrangements were made for the forthcoming birthday party. The provincial executive report was read and discussed. Competitions resulted as follows:—large bloom: Mrs Mathesori 1> Mrs Atkinson and Mrs D. Taylor (equal) 2, Mrs Scoltock and Mrs L. Kotkman (equal) 4. Small bloom: Mrs Matheson 1. 3. Brooklands.—The monthly meeting of the Brooklands branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the Brooklands hall. Mrs Cox presided and welcomed one new member.
