Fall In Labour Party Membership

(NJS. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 30. Membership oj the British Labour Party dropped by 13,837 year. This was revealed today in the report of the executive committee to the party’s fifty-third annual conference scheduled for Scarborough, Yorkshire in September. No reason is given for the drop. Of the total membership 5,056,912 were affiliated trade union members. The trade unions contributed £126,422 in affiliation fees to a total general income fund of £198,417 —a drop of £7140 on 1952. Expenditure in 1953 was £192,224 — £18,130 down on the previous year. The party’s general election fund stands at £193,181.
