YOU HAVE THE LAST WORD A Wellington newspaper recently reported a meeting between a panel of New Zealand manufacturers and a group of delegates from the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. As usual, the ladies had the last word and their criticisms and suggestions for the improvement of manufactured goods were carefully noted. Among the things asked for, were blankets with a longer tuck-in, boys’ shorts with double seats and prettier underwear for the buxom! They also wanted to know why a greater supply of pure silk stockings was not available. In each case, on the principle that the customer is always right, the manufacturers promised to do something about it. Basically, this is the way private enterprise works. To be successful it must cater for your needs; it must provide the goods and services you want' But if “controls” keep interfering in its day-to-day operations you will inevitably get what some “planner” thinks you ought to have, rather than the things you want. Inserted in the interests of all sections of the community by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand. Advt.
