WELLINGTON JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS TIMARU COMPETITOR’S FINE PLAY (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Aug. 31. An outstanding round of 68 by a 16-year-old Timaru golfer, I. J. Harvey, was the highlight of today’s play in the qualifying round of the Wellington provincial J u nior and boys’ golf championships at the Shandon course. Harvey headed the junior qualifiers, and wa« at the head of the entire field, six strokes in front of R. J. Charles, whose tally was 151. After returning 77 in the morning round, Harvey played immaculate golf in a^ernoon ’ coped like a veteran with conditions on the rain-sodden course. He made only one slio—at the fourteenth, where he missed an 18-inch putt. Harvey has won the title for the last two years. Charles was the top qualifier in the senior division. His morning round of 73 equalled the standard scratch score for the course. In the afternoon, his form was not nearly so good. Charles’s partner in the morning and afternoon rounds, J.- W. Scott (Wellington) returned a 73 in the afternoon. He scored 86 in the morning round.

TOURNAMENT AT CHEVIOT

The annual tournament for the Westenra and Rutherford cups was held on the Cheviot links during the week-end. Results were as follows:

Westenra Cup.—M. F. Childs. 80. 86—166; runer-up, L. H. Davison, M, 88—182. Rutherford Cup (played In conjunction).—M. F. Childs, 166, 16—150; runnerup, A. Lundy, 192, 36—156. Morning Medal.—Senior: T. Kerr, 90, 15—75: runner-up. L. M. Roberts, 91, -13— 78. Junior: T. R. Anderson, 91, 21—70; runner-up, J. Waters. 97, 24—73. Afternoon Medal.—Senior: J. A. Rentoul, 90, 14—76: runner-up, J. F. Wade, 93, 16—77. Junior: R. G. Anderson, 94, 22—72; runner-up, K. Pitman, 95, 20—75. The teams’ match was won by the Cheviot team—Messrs T. Kerr, M. Childs, T. F. Wade, J. A. Ren tout.

LOCKE AND ALLISS TO TOUR N.Z. NEXT YEAR

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 31. Bobby Locke and Percy Alliss will tour New Zealand next year during a world tour. They win be followed two months later by Miss Jean Donald, the former Scottish champion, who has turned professional. She will be in New Zealand about a month, and Locke fend Alliss about three weeks.
