SOUTHERN MAORI SEAT
NATIONAL CANDIDATE CHOSEN (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 31. Mr A. T. Carroll, of Wairpa, was today selected as the National Party’s candidate for the Southern Maori seat at the General Election. This will be Mr Carroll’s third attempt to enter Parliament. On two previous occasions he stood for Western Maori. Mr Carroll, who has been a prominent sheepfarmer in the northern Hawke’s Bay district, studied at Canterbury Agricultural College, where he obtained a diploma in agriculture. In 1940 he was awarded the Bledisloe Medal for his efforts in raising the standard of Maori farming in his district. Mr W. R. Bennett, of Wanganui, will be the National Party’s candidate for the Western Maori seat. Mr Bennett is a farmer, and until recently was Maori rehabilitation officer in the Wanganui and Taranaki districts.
WAIRARAPA SEAT
SOCIAL CREDIT LEAGUE CANDIDATE. (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 31. Mr John Eric Feast is to contest the Wairarapa seat as a New Zealand Social Credit Political League candidate. His candidature, which has been endorsed by Dominion headquarters, was announced today by the Wairarapa branch.
