SUMNER BEACH PROTECTION

GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY SOUGHT An application to the Government for a subsidy of itwo-thirds of the cost of protection work on the Sumner beach was approved by the City Council last evening. Detailed reports and plans had been prepared by the city engineer for forwarding to the Ministry of Works, reported the works committee. In anticipation ■of a subsidy being forthcoming from the Government, the committee, in osder to consolidate the weaker portions of the protection wall, had authorised work to continue, although the money provided on this year’s estimates was almost expended. Tbe committee’s action was confirmed by. the council.
