Lieutenant-Colonel J. A. Bretherton has relinquished the appointment of commanding officer, 15th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, general list, R.N.Z.A., with the rank of lieu-tenant-colonel. Messrs H. J. Barker, of the Christchurch Drainage Board, and Mr J. R. McGeorge, of the Health Department, have been appointed to the staff of the city inspectors’ department. Inspectors G. M. Daniel and A. G. Daniel have resigned. Mr J. C. Saunders, who has been secretary of the Canterbury Cricket Association since 1945, intends to resign from, the position at the annual meeting of the association on September 16. An announcement to this effect was made “with great regret” by the chairman of the management committee (Mr T. A. Tucker) last evening. A motion of sympathy with Cr. L. G. Amos in the death of his mother was passed by the City Council last evening. The motion also expressed condolence to Mr E. J. Amos and other members of the family. Mr J. H. Wright, traffic foreman at the Christchurch railway station, retired at the end of last week after 40 years' service with the Railways Department. The Canterbury University College Council has appointed the following chairmen of committees:—academic, Mr S. J. Irwin; finance, Mr E. B. E. Taylor. The J. R. Templin Bursary in Engineering has been awarded to Mr D. H. James at Canterbury University College. Mr G. C. Lockwood has resigned as lecturer in legal ethics at Canterbury University College. Appreciation of his services was recorded by the college council yesterday.
