CONVERSION TO BUSES ON SEPTEMBER 11 . The Cashmere-Papanui tram route will be converted to buses on September 11. A ceremony to mark the running of the last tram will be held that morning at 930 o’clock. This was approved by the Christchurch Transport Board at its meeting yesterday. Full details of the programme for the ceremony will be released by the board at a later date. The sub-com-mittee’s report to the board, however, mentioned that the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) would be available to take part in the ceremony, and that arrangements had been made for the printing of souvenir tickets to be issued to the passengers ridjng on the Cashmere-Papanui line. The conversion to buses on the Papanui line .comes 50 years after the first electric tram-car was operated on the line in 1808. The general manager (Mr J. F. Fardel!) said it had bden decided to change the time for the ceremony from the afternoon to the morning. “You are anticipating that Canterbury will hold the Ranfurly Shield, and you don't want to clash with that,** said the chairman (Mr C. C. HoUand). ‘That is so.” said Mr FardelL
