Dulles To Lead 24 U.S. Delegates (Bee. 11 pm.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 25. lie Secretary of State (Mr Dulles) Md Senators BL Alexander Smith (Repoblican, New Jersey) and Mike Mansfield (Democrat, Montana), will bead the 24-man United States delegation to the South-east Asian defence conference starting on September 6 at Manila.
The official list, released today by the State Department, included two ambmadors, an admiral and two of Mr Dulles’s leading assistants. The ambassadors were Mr William Sebald, who is assigned to Burma, and Mr Raymond Spruance, who represents the United States in the Philippines. Others were Vice-Admiral Arthur Davis, a Defence Department ipecialist in international security affairs, Mr Carl McCardle, Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, and Mr Herman Phleger, a State Department legal advisor. The conference will bring together representatives of the United States, Britain. France. Australia, New Zealand, Siam, the Philippines, and Pakistan.
