APARTHEID POLICY HELPED BY DR. MALAN’S VICTORY

In the Orange Free State the Nationalists won all 25 seats. Two special representatives for natives in the Cape Province will be elected separately later. Compared with the 1949 provincial elections the Nationalists gained 10 seats in three polling provinces, all at the expense of the United Party. The United Party gained four—three from the Labour Party, and one from the Independents.
