Mr James Robertson, the newlyappointed conductor of the National Orchestra, who will make his first public appearance in New Zealand at Christchurch on September 9. will be the guest of honour at a reception to be given on September 8 by the president and members of the Christchurch Civic Music Council Mr R. D. Neale, senior lecturer in electrical engineering at Canterbury University College, has been transferred from associate to full membership of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. London. Mr J. H. McKenzie, of Hamilton, was elected a life member of the Public Service Association at the annual conference of the association’s executive council in Wellington yesterday (FA.) Mt H. Bonar. of Opawa, returned to New Zealand this week by the Rangitiki. While overseas Mr Bonar visited his 80-year-old mother in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. Mr Ralph Francis, one of the leading cornet players in New Zealand, has been appointed conductor of the Caver, sham (Dunedin) Citizens' Band. Mr Francis was formerly solo cornetist in the St. Kilda Municipal Band, end twice won the national amateur championship at Wellington and Christchurch. For a time Mr Francis was conductor of the Palmerston North City Band, and since then has been a member of the Port Nicholson Silver Band and the Kaikorii Brass Band.
