N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS NEXT WEEK? The 12 players to take part in the 1954 New Zealand amateur billiards championship have been selected by the Canterbury Amateur Billiards Association. The 1953 winner, Alan Twohill, of Greymouth, will defend his title. Reports from the West Coast say that he is right up to his best form. E. Roberts, Auckland’s sole representative, has won the title four times and. With his sound knowledge of the game, he is sure to be an attraction. The Wellington trio, Lance Stout (winner in 1939, 1951-2), W. Har- , court (WeHington champion this year), and H. Robinson (runher-up to Harcourt) all have good backgrounds of competitive play. The Southland ipair, S. Baker and J. Proctor, are also experienced players. Canterbury will be represented by W. (Pod) Smith, one of the Dominion's best players, although he is now nearing the veteran 1 stage. The others are T. Yesberg (winner of the Canterbury billiards championship), V. Choat (winner oj the Canterbury snooker championship),' D. Higgins (winner in 1952 Canterbury billiards championship), and E. Simons, of uie Tramway Club. t The fixture will open on Monday at 9.30 a.m., and continue throughout the week. B Grade Competition New Brighton R.S.A. won the B grade inter-club competition from St. Albans Recreation. The results were:—New Brighton R.S.A. (Colljns 200, Harbidge 200, Qudid 200) beat W.M.C.
