“South-East Asia Lost By End of 1955” (Rec. 10 p.m. TOLEDO (Ohio), Aug. 14. Major-General Claire L. Chennault, war-time commander of the famed Flying Tigers, said last night that all of South-east Asia would fall to the Communists by the end of 1955 unless the United States took “some realistic action” to stop it. Speaking at the Air Force Association’s fourteenth annual meeting, General Chennault said: “There is only one possible hope for peace in Asia —the United States must abandon its allies in Europe (in dealing with Asiatic problems) and make allies in Asia.” American foreign policy in the Far East, he said, had been dictated by “consultation with the French and the British” and that had been “the great mistake.” . He predicted that the Communists would “take advantage of the truce to penetrate the rest of Indo-China down to Laos and Cambodia” and eventually the remainder of SouthHe urged support for the Nationalist Chinese forces and for South Korea with “arms and money.” If this were done, he said ground troops from the United States would not be needed.
Japan's Support Of U.S. Policy (Rec. 8 p.m.> WASHINGTON. Aug. 14. Mr Sadao Iguchi, the Japanese Ambassador, said yesterday that Japan was definitely aligned with the free nations—especially the United States —and no change in policy was contemplated. Mr Iguchi had just returned from an unscheduled call at the State Department where he saw Mr Walter Bedell Smith, the Under-Secretary of State. Telling reporters that no change in policy was contemplated Mr Iguchi was commenting on a report of a statement said to have been made m Tokyo by Mr Hayato Ikeda. Secretary-Gen-eral of the Liberal Party. Mr Ikeda was quoted as saying that American attempts to roll back the Iron Curtain had been stalemated and that the “traditional pro-American policy (of the Japanese Government) should be changed as the world situation changes. . .
