Catch of Whales

A catch of 109 whales, 13 fewer than the previous year, is recorded in the Marine Department's report for 1953. The yield from the whales was 780 tons of oil and 90 tons of bone dust. The report says that the season was a good one, whales generally being in good condition. As part of a university research project, five whales were tagged with “Discovery Expedition” type markers.—(F.O.PJL)
