COMPETITION NEARS END Only games that had a bearing on the Canterbury Basketball Association’s competitions were played on Saturday. AUCKLAND CATHOLIC TEAM WINS FIJIAN TOUR ENDS AT SUVA (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7.30 »p.m.) §UVA, August 14. The Auckland Roman Catholic basketball team beat Fiji by 27 points to 5 in the last match of the tour today. The captain, Carrie Lawn, again showed masterly, leadership. The court-craft and clever combination of the Aucklanders, plus the brilliant passing of the three Maori centres end the defensive play of Meri Shaw, Jem Johnston, and Annie Arp, emphasised the visitors’ superiority. The Aucklanders played and won 25 games, scoring 540 goals to 70 goals. Lady Ragg, patron of the Fiji Basketball Association, has presented 'them with a silver cup. The team will leave Nandi for Auckland tomorrow. A Fiji team will enter the Auckland Roman Catholic basketball tourney in September next year.
