AMUSEMENTS Kerridge Odeon A STATEMENT ON POLICY To enable the general public to understand something of the development of motion picture large screen presentation we append the following explanation of the policy adopted by KERRIDGE-ODEON m relation to these developments:— The reason why KERRIDGE-ODEON THEATRES have not adopted any change in the size of their screen presentation is the result of the failure of the producing companies so far to adopt any standardisation. Each of the American companies has adopted varying screen ratios. A permanent change in screen presentation is imminent, but regrettably the film producing companies, by- working their separate ways, have produced many varying systems including 3D, Cinerama, Cinemascope, Vistavision and numerous others, each involving different screen aspect ratios, (that is the relation of width to height), ranging from 2.55 to 1 down to the present ratio of 1.33 to 1. The policy of KERRIDGE-ODEON THEATRES will be to await result of the final efforts of the “back room” boys to yet produce the standardised and perfect change before any variation is adopted by us in our screen presentation. IT IS NOT A MATTER OF ECONOMICS because the cost of wide screen presentation in any of its present known experimental forms is only nominal* with the exception of Cinerama. We anticipate within the next few months that a definite standard will be adopted and on that date all KERRIDGE-ODEON THEATRE screens will be altered to meet any permanent change. This is the policy which is currently being adopted throughout the world by all the major Exhibiting Circuits. In the meantime we will continue to present on the original standard screen which has so well served countless millions during the last decade. MAJESTIC Direction: Christchurch Cinemas, Ltd., and Kerridge-Odeon. Telephone 79-287.
