FOXRELIO WINS MAIN HANDICAP. (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, Aug. 15. The Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club’s meeting was held at Wanganui on Saturday. Steady rain fell for most of the day, and the track became soft. There was a moderate attendance. The totalisator handled £27,294 10s, compared with £28,775 10s on the corresponding day last year, when the meeting was held at New Plymouth. The double, Neutron-Northcliffe, paid £l2O 13s for £l. Pym’s Pride completed the course in the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club Steeplechase, but when being pulled up about a furlong past the post, he dropped dead. RICCARTON INQUIRIES E. G. Low, the rider of Desperado, which finished second in the August Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday, was questioned by the judicial stewards on his handling of the horse nearing the finish of the race. Low’® explanation was accepted. N. Eastwood, the rider of Mish Mish In the Redcliffs Handicap, ■was fined £3 for failing to carry a shot vest with which he had been weighed out. Russleigh and Watch and Wait suffered interference as the field jumped away in the -Aylesbury Handicap. This was found to have been caused by Detection jumping inwards and cutting them back. No blame was attachable to Detection’s rider, J. W. Harris, who had been given permission to ride the horste at I4jlb overweight because a strong rider.was needed. Colonel Hunt, ridden by B. S. Finlayson, was checked near the straight entrance in the Longbeach Handicap, when Pack Drill, ridden by E. G. Low. shifted his ground slightly when Low d_ew the whip. Low was cautioned by the stipendiary stewards. T. S. Carbin, the rider of Nokomis in the Longbeach Handicap, was cautioned by the stipendiary stewards for not giving Highwayman sufficient clearance as he was passing him near the five-furlong post. C. McDonald, the rider of Highwayman, said that his mount was losing ground quickly at the time. The inquiry into interference to Nava! Treaty and other horses in the first 100 yards of the Selwyn Handicap on the second day was concluded. The stewards decided that no further action be taken.
