NOVEL “SWAP” CONTEST

JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

FUNDS FOR COMMUNITY WORK To raise funds to further its objects of service to the community, the Canterbudy Junior Chamber of Commerce has organised a competition to be known as “Whopper-Swopper.” During the next few days every householder on the Post Office mailing list (more than 50,000 homes) will receive a sheet of 52 squares. Each square contains an advertisement for a firm or its products. It is printed in four colours, and perforated so that it can be easily separated from the sheet »* Any person who wishes to enter for the competition must choose a or squares he wishes to collect and try to obtain as many of that square as he can by “swapping” with the other squares on his sheet, or by obtaining squares in any other way possible. Only one delivery of the sneets is to be made, and no additional sheets have been printed. The prizes are: First, two return flights by Tasman Empire Airways to Fiji and £5O in cash; second, two return flights by Tasman Empire Airways to Sydney and £25 in cash; third, £5O in cash; fourth, £25 in cash.

A number of minor prizes will be awarded to children and young people. They are: Girl under 10, an order on a Christchurch firm for a cream cane pram and a “walkie-talkie” doll; boy under 10, an order on a Christchurch firm for an electric train systdm; girl over 10 and under 14, an order on a Christchurch firm for a woman’s sports bicycle with accessories; boy, an order on another Christchurch firm for a man’s sports bicycle with accessories; girl over 14 and under 16, an order on a Christchurch jeweller for a wdman’s wristlet watch; boy, an order on the same jeweller for a man’s wristlet watch; girls and boys over 16 and under 18, an order on a Christchurch firm for two folding cameras—one for a boy and one for a girl. These prizes have been given by Christchurch firms. Subsidiary Prizes The advertisers in many cases are awarding extra subsidiary prizes for collections of their particular squares. Details of these minor competitions are set out on the back of the particular sqtiares. The first prize in the open competition will be awarded by the Canterbury Junior Chamber of Commerce to the person collecting the greatest number of any single square. Three other prizes will be awarded to the persons next in order. Prizes in the children’s section will be awarded to the boy and girl in each of the four sections nisted who collects the greatest number of any single square. Other prizes of orders for goods. or services as shown on the back of the squares will be awarded by the advertisers to the persons who collect the biggest number of their squares. The net proceeds of the competition will be devoted to community service work similar to projects carried out by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in the last 10 years.
