MCLEAN INSTITUTE LETS TENDER m OXFORD TERRACE SITE A four-storey reinforced concrete building is to be erected in Oxford terrace, Christchurch, by the McLean Institute, the charitable trust which was established under the will of Mr Allan McLean, who died in 1907. The institute, which conducts two Christchurch homes for women—“ Holly-. Lea* and “Quamby”—will occupy a part of one floor as offices. The new building will stand on a site just off Colombo street, and opposite the Oxford Hotel. In 1951 the institute bought 38 perches of land, with four shops, at the corner of Colombo street and Oxford terrace. The new building will be erected on part of the property. An old bakehouse will be removed to make room for it, but the 'shops will not be interfered with. A tender has been let for the erection of the building. Construction Is expected to begin shortly. The contractors will be D. G. Malcolm and Company, Ltd. There will be about 1630 square feet of space on each floor, and over and above that required for its own purposes the institute plans to subdivide the floor space to suit tenants. The building will be of modern design. Its facilities will include a modern lift, and there will be small balconies outside the windows on each floor.
