STOCK EXCHANGES UPWARD TREND REMAINS UNCHECKED Apart from chain store issues prices of snares dealt in on the Christchurch Stock **xcnange yesterday were firm to firmer in moderate trading. A feature of the day was the sharp rise in New Zealand Breweries to business and buyers at 475, with further sellers holding for another sixpence. The market for Ballins, which were very active for some weeks, was flat, with unsupported sellers for ordinaries ana preferences at 28s 6d and 21s 9d respectively. Gas shares remained very firm, with rS ies ,? n<i buyers for Wellingtons at 19s Ud. Except for Nationals, which were somewhat wide with buyers at 27s 3d and sellers at 28s Bd. the insurance section was bare of buying offers, although there were plenty of sellers for most issues.

Dalgety s A and B shares again had solid buying support at 12s 6d, with sellers remaining reticent. Following the lead in Sydney on Monday, where Broken Hill Proprietary shares fell Is 9d because of the new issue announcement, quotations for this corpor a “° n s shares were weaker, with buyers at 36s 6d and sellers at 37s 6d. Until the recession in Sydney the news had the opposite effect in New Zealand, where the market had buoyant tendencies. Fri bay s announcement of a new issue of * iA° 15 ordinary <1 shares at a premium of 10s each is the company's third postwar issue. In 1949, 4,628,300 shares were issued in the ratio of one for three, at ® e/ R x Tl nium ®ach, and in 1951 6,500,000 shares were issued ‘in the same ratio and at the same premium. Tne 1951 brought paid capital to just on £25,000,000, by far the largest of any company in Australia.
