The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) will attend the funeral of the wife of the Minister in charge of Police (Mr W. H. Fortune) at Auckland this afternoon. Mrs Fortune died suddenly on Sunday afternoon.—(P.A.) Air Commodore J. E. Jarman. D.F.CL RAF., a son of Mr H. E. Jarman, of Straven road, Christchurch, has been elected as associate fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Air Commodore Jarman is stationed in Karachi as Chipf of Staff of the Royal Pakistan Air Force, on loan from the Royal Air Force. Cr. A. R. Guthrey and Mr W. W. Laing were last evening appointed representatives of the City Council on the Metropolitan Patriotic Welfare Committee. Mr H. M. Handyside, of Medina, has been declared elected a councillor of the Cheviot County Council. Mr Handyside will represent the Hawkswood riding. He will succeed Mr JF. McFarlane, who resigned his seat last month. Senior-Sergeant S. J. AndefSJP’ who has been district clerk at the Christchurch Central Police Station for the last 11 years, has been transferred to uniform duty and replaces Senior-Sergeant C. A. G. Mcßae, who was recently transferred to Gore. Cr. J. E. Tait last evening tendered his resignation to the City Council as a council representative on the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board because of difficulty in attending meetings. A new appointment will made at the the next meeting of the council. Mr T. A. Crawford, who succeeds Mr H. R. Williams as the representative of North Canterbury Federated Fenners on the council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, was welcomed to the council last evening W the president (Mr J. Bradley).
