FRIGATE LEAVES FOR KOREA

YEAR’S TOUR OF DUTY FOR KANIERE (New Zealand. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 19. The frigate Kaniere left Auckland today for a year’s tour of duty in [Korean waters. She is commanded by Lieutenant-Commander S. F. Mercer, the second New Zealander to rise from the lower deck to command a warship. The Kaniere, spick and, span after refit and recommissioning, left the Devonport Naval Base at 10 a.m. She will replace the Pukaki, which will return from Korea in September I The Kaniere will go first to Sydney for exercises with Australian naval units.
