OBITUARY

MR JOHN AULD One of Cheviot’s last pioneer farmers, Mr John Auld, died at Cheviot on Saturday. Mr Auld was bom 91 years ago in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. When he was 17, he arrived at Lyttelton in the Lady Jocelyn, and worked in the Amuri district. In the Cheviot subdivision, Mr Auld crew a section of 300 acres in the Deaward riding. Until the last tew weeks he took an active interest in the management of his farm, and was the last of the early settlers of the district who was farming his original holding. Held in high esteem in the district, he was a foundation member of the Knox Presoyterian Church Cheviot. He was a keen supporter of the Cheviot Racing Club and the Cheviot Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Mr Auld’s vife died in 1908; he had no children.

Music Library Gift A gift of more than 60 volumes of music and musical literature, together with £4l for renovations to some of the music and the purchase of additional volumes in the centennial memorial music library at the Canterbury Public Library has been made by the Christchurch Society of Registered Music Teachers. The library committee reported to the City CounCouncil last evening that the gift had been accepted, with thanks.
