RESERVES VESTED IN COUNCIL Many reserves in areas recently amalgamated with Christchurch from the Heathcote and Waimain counties were accepted by the City Council last evening. ’The council also decided to ask for the vesting in it of control of a reserve adjoining the Emmett street block reserve. This is reserved for a community site and the Plunkct Society wishes to obtain part of the land for a Plunket c'inic. Application will also be made by the council for a subsidy on the cost of development of the reserve m the Emmett housing block, estimated to cost £1142, plus £5OO for playground equipment, and £BOO for the formation of pathways. Owners of land in counties are required when subdividing their properties to set aside areas as reserve! for recreation or other purposes and on the deposit of the subdivision plant the areas vest in the Crown, tne Commissioner of Crown Lands advised the council. Until the reserves were used, it was necessary for someone to look after them. The total in the special fund where owners made a cash contribution in lieu of setting apart a reserve. was £13,449. The act required this money to be spent in the purchase of land in the locality for recreation purposes or for the development of existing recreation reserves. He asked if the City Council had any proposals. A long list of unvested Crown re- ' serves brought into the city last October was also submitted to the coun- , cil. I .---■=??
