WAIKARI WATER SUPPLY
Sir, —While the Waipara County Council Spends £5OO tinkering with wells that won’t give a reliable supply of good water to Waikari, we residents can continue to bath in a teacup and do our- washing in a quart billy. It is not just a Waikari matter, anyway; Hawarden and the Peaks suffer recurrent water shortages, too. What we want is another Downlands scheme for household and stock water. I understand that an aerial survey for such a scheme was completed before Christmas. If that is so, why does not the council take its courage in both hands, let us all know what it is going to do, and then fire ahead with a scheme that will make water at least as plentiful in the district as beer.— Yours, etc., SPIT SPARKS. Waikari, July 19, 1954.
