East Germany Gaols Former Minister
(Rec. 8 p.m.) BERLIN. July 14. The former East German Supply Minister (Dr. Karl Hamann) has been sentenced to 10 years’ hard labour by the East German Supreme Court for sabotaging East German supply, the East German news agency A.D.N. announced today. Hamann was also convicted of maintaining “criminal relations with Imperialist agents.” Four officials of his ministry received hard labour terms, ranging from three to six years, on similar charges. All the accused were found guilty of sabotaging East Germany’s food supEly —mainly between 1951 and 1953 — y misdirecting large quantities of food and by deliberately disturbing the Government food policy. Hamann, who is 51, was dismissed
from his Ministerial post on December . 15, 1952, and arrested. He had been suspended two weeks earlier during an “ investigation of a food crisis in the country.
