MOUNT NGAURUHOE STILL ERUPTING

LOUD EXPLOSIONS HEARD AT CHATEAU (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 15. Mount Ngauruhoe was covered with cloud all today, but a number of loud explosions were clearly heard from the Chateau Tongariro. The explosions began in the early morning, and the loudest were heard from about 7 p.m. onward. Although not evenly spaced, the explosions were fairly regular, and the usual shock waves rattled the windows of the Chateau. The mountain was clear of cloud on Wednesday night, and the volcano could be seen fountaining out lava, while orange-coloured flames leapt several hundred feet above the crater. Small discharges of lava have been noticed all the week.
