HOTEL MILFORD

REOPENING PLANNED FOR NOVEMBER 29 (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 15. The Hotel Milford, which has been closed since early 1952, when fire destroyed one wing, is to reopen on November 29, t according to an announcement by the Tourist Department today. The hotel has been rebuilt and refurnished on modern lines and will be one of the best-equipped hotels catering for overseas and domestic travellers. All rooms in the new wing will have bathroom or shower and toilet, and this accommodation is available for more than 60 guests. “Because of these high-class amenities,” said the general manager (Mr R. W. Mashall), “some may expect that the hotel is just for American tourists and that there will be a £5 daily tariff. That is not so. Although we know that many of the 14,000 overseas visitors we expect next season will visit Milford, very many New Zealand travellers will also stay at the, hotel. Therefore, the tariff will be 35s daily for the main building or £3 for the new wing.” Milford Track and Cascade Creek camp will reopen on December 1, 1954.
