CANTERBURY PARK CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELD Racing at the club’s four meetings during the current season had been of a high standard, with the exception of the race for probationary drivers at the club’s meeting on February 13, said the retiing pesident (Mr R. T. McMillan) at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club yesterday. Clubs with four or more days of racing had to run at least one race for this class of driver during a season. Probationary drivers should be given every encouragement, said Mr McMillan, but when the club next ran such a race, the conditions might have to be altered to prevent a repetition of last February’s race. During the present season attendances had averaged 10,000 for the four days, and totalisator investments had shown an increase of more than £ll,OOO over the figures for the previous year, Mr McMillan said. Stakes had been increased by £3lOO to £26,000. This increase in stakes had resulted from the club’s credit balance the previous year, and from the club’s share in the distribution of profits from the Totalisator Agency Board. The following officers were elected:— president. Mr C. S. Peate; vice-president, Mr F. E. Sutton; treasurer, Mr H. T Fuller; stewards, Messrs G. Begg, H. F Butland. L. M. Denton, H. O. Gardiner, E. W. Gray. R. W. Jackman. E. F. Mercer G. L. Nicoll, W. Price. J. A. Redpath, A. L. Tucker, A. E. Williams. I. J. Wilson, C. R. Witty, and Dr. A. S. Sandston; committee. Messrs J. E. W. Cross. Denton, V. J. McKibbin, W. M. Shand. L. S. Smart and Sutton.
