NOTED BRITISH SURGEON

CHRISTCHURCH VISIT ARRANGED POST-GRADUATE COURSE AT HOSPITAL A noted British surgeon, Professor R. Milnes Walker, professor of surgery at the University of Bristol, is to visit Christchurch, and will conduct a post-graduate course in surgery. This information is given in a report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Canterbury, Marlborough, Nelson, and Westland Division of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society this afternoon, by the chairman (Mr L. A. Bennett). Mr Bennett says the division was able to make a substantial grant to the Christchurch Hospital Post-gradu-ate Committee to help it to meet the cost of bringing Professor Walker to Christchurch. Part of Professor Walker’s time in Christchurch will be devoted to lectures and discussions on the diagnosis and treatment of malignant disease. Mr Bennett says. In addition, he will give some lectures to members of the British Medical Association. While in New Zealand, Professor Walker will also make at least one national broadcast on cancer. The post-graduate course which Professor Walker will conduct in Christchurch will be open to surgeons from all parts of the country, and as a result of the financial help given by the division, the Post-graduate Committee has been able to take the unprecedented step of making the course free to all who attend, Mr Bennett says.
