LAND FOR RESERVES
REPORT SOUGHT FROM HALSWELL COUNCIL . The Lands and Survey Department is holding funds for the purchase of reserves. This information had > been given to a meeting of the interim control committee of the Metropolitan Town-planning Committee by a representative of the department, said the secretary of the committee (Miss I. V. Shrimpton) in a letter received yesterday by the HalsweU County Council. It was most desirable at this stage to select areas for development as reserves, while the areas were still outside the present “demand-area” for housing, said the letter. Miss Shrimpton asked the council to report to the committee on the situation of future reserves in its area. “Sometimes a parochial element comes into this sort of thing,” said the chairman (Mr J. Mackenzie). “I am not too sure that we should be particularly concerned whether a proposed reserve is in or outside the district provided it is suitable.” The council will take time to review likely areas for recreation reserves.
